For Mari

My stylist Mari struck out to start her own business - congrats!! On my first appointment with her we got talking about mystical topics and she is a spiritual counselor and was excited to find out I do tarot. When it came time to settle up, she refused to accept payment, and asked for a tarot reading instead!

This was a general reading with no particular question asked. Below is what I sent her.

Deck: Cosmobeings by Joanna Nelson

First impressions: Reversed cards are not “bad’ or even the opposite of the upright meanings. I see these as energy turned inward, thoughts, feelings, spiritual energy. In this reading I see heavy stuff in the past that you’re moving through, achieving your goals, and laying the groundwork for success. You have been able to convert hardship into motivation and take the actions you need to prevent going through the same experiences on repeat.

1 Heart of the Matter: 10 of Wands

At the heart of everything you are carrying too much of the burden. Whether it’s financial or emotional, you’re the one with the extra responsibilities. But tens are also completion of a cycle, so go ahead and put down whatever you don’t need to carry anymore.

2 Challenges/obstacles: 10 of Swords

Your challenge is that you are in the midst of some kind of major emotional turmoil. Something has ended badly, and given card 1 above, I think this is part of the extra load you carry. Acceptance and healing are difficult, but necessary.

3 Your roots: 5 of Wands Rv

This card suggests that being surrounded by conflict - and also feeling conflicted yourself - is not new territory. Whatever is happening now could be rooted in old conflicts, like dust was kicked up. Part of shedding the burden could be acknowledging this old situation is no longer relevant in the present.

4 Past influences at play: 3 of Cups Rv

You have a fierce streak of independence that is active in this situation that may not be working in your favor this time around. In the upright position, 3 of Cups is friendship and collaboration, so just know that you don’t have to figure it all out yourself this time. Draw on your support systems to help you through.

5 Aspirations: The Lovers

You aspire to self love, and to be in loving partnership with others. This card reinforces card 4 above in that your DIY approach could be contributing to disharmony.

6 Immediate future: King of Cups

This is the card of emotional maturity and balance that is manifesting now. It could be you achieving this balance, or it could be someone else’s influence on you or on the situation. This reinforces the tens in cards 1 and 2 as closing out this painful period, and moving into calmer waters.

7 Self perception: Knight of Pentacles

You pride yourself on your ability to knuckle down and get shit done! You are soooo busy, you are working your ass off. It’s hard work, but it’s bringing you joy.

8 you in your environment: Judgement

You may perceive others judging you, but you are following your heart and you know that it is paying off.

9 Hopes/fears: 4 of Pentacles Rv

You have some concerns about spending too much money, or losing savings, and you are hoping that your investments now will bear fruit soon.

10 Probable outcome: 10 of Pentacles

I shy away from predictions, but if the previous interpretations are on target, the natural outcome of the emotional work and financial investments is success. You are building financial security and contributing to your future prosperity!

Card of the Day: Six of Pentacles

Giving, receiving, sharing. I couldn't really relate to this card as I'm not typically the philanthropic type, and I'm also not on the other end of the balance needing charity. Looking at the Biddy Tarot definition, the author pulls out an application for relationships that is a perfect fit: "...If you are in a relationship, the Six of Pentacles can suggest that one partner is dependent on the other to provide most of the money, love or energy for the relationship to keep going... The relationship is, therefore, unequal; however, both partners have mutually agreed to this arrangement to ensure stability." My husband was already laid off for a couple weeks when the COVID-19 pandemic began. There were no jobs all winter or spring, but he had unemployment, and the CARES Act provided enough supplemental income to keep going as normal as possible. I pulled this card the the last week of hubbin's unemployment benefits, and as of yet, we don't know if he is eligi...

Death of a Friend

A boyfriend from high school died a couple years ago and I only just found out. For the last several years he would post on FB for his sobriety anniversary and I hadn’t seen anything so I went to his profile and saw… “heavenly birthday” greetings from last year?!?!  No announcement on his profile, no obit, not even an open post on his wife’s, kids’, mom’s, or brother’s pages. I did some internet sleuthing and all I found was a rejected bankruptcy filing from 2 years ago for $3000 of debt. His last profile pic he looked sick so he could have had liver issues, cancer, anything.  I was deeply infatuated with this dude and am feeling really gutted. I decided to pull a mini-cross spread to get some intuitive insight but it’s really not comforting 😢 6 card mini cross Mystic Cats Tarot  1: subject/person King of Cups Rv Prone to moodiness or depression but emotionally self-aware.  Yep.  2: obstacle/challenge Judgement  Higher calling, life purpose, letting ...

Not Immediately Clear Does Not Mean Wrong Part I

I have pulled two readings for myself in the last month that just don't make sense, and I could not figure out what the lesson, or how to apply it to my life.  The first was this one from Dec 3: First of all, I don't even remember the question, but I think actually that will help me get clarity. I will often pull a spread that has nothing to do with what I'm after, but still makes sense in some other aspect of my life that actually has higher priority.  9 Pentacles Rev: Self-worth, over-investment in work, hustling 7 Pentacles: Long-term view, sustainable results, perseverance, investment 8 Cups: Disappointment, abandonment, withdrawal, escapism At first I could see how being obsessed with work and material gain can lead to disappointment and giving up, but I was not sure how it fit with me right now. In the two jobs previous to this I definitely hustled my ass off and was  not  rewarded fairly. I got major burnout. Yes I was disappointed and I quit both jobs....
