Not Immediately Clear Does Not Mean Wrong Part II

As I mentioned in Part I, sometimes I pull readings that don't seem to make sense, but that doesn't mean it's a throw-away!

The second of the two readings I couldn’t decipher was from Dec 29:

I was trying out a new spread, and didn't really understand how to interpret the cards to the positions, which align to the 4 directions and 4 elements:

  • North/Earth = King Swords Rev: Inner truth, misuse of power, manipulation
  • East/Air = The Emperor Rev: Domination, excessive control, lack of discipline, inflexibility
  • South/Fire = 7 Swords: Betrayal, deception, getting away with something, acting strategically
  • West/Water = 10 Swords: Painful ending, deep wounds, betrayal, loss, crisis
  • Center/Spirit = Ace Cups: Love, new relationships, compassion, creativity

I literally had a stabbing feeling above my left eye after pulling this spread from all these SWORDS! WHAT is this even about?? I could tell it was bad, and it didn't seem to correspond to a present or past situation. I posted it to Insta with hashtags inviting the Tarot community to weigh in, but to no avail.

I don't usually inquire about "The Future" because I mainly read for perspective and immediate guidance. In this instance, it really looked like a warning of something headed my way, and I was not looking forward to whatever it was!

I still don't know for certain, but it really looks like the 2020 election situation, especially the invasion of the capitol building in DC during the electoral vote count, which happened on Jan 6 – one week after I drew this spread. The only thing I can really see here is that despite all this crisis going on around me, I am centered in love, compassion, and creativity, so I find comfort in that.

Building on this interpretation, I'm going to try to apply the elemental forces of each position to the best of my ability, which is sketchy at best...

  • The King Swords in Earth position could be the literal 45th president. Swords being the suit of Air, he's misusing ideology to manipulate people, which are material, earthly beings.
  • The Rev Emperor in Air position reinforces the North/Earth card; I feel like this is a really strong call-out! Domineering, excessively controlling, undisciplined, and inflexible.
  • The 7 Swords in the Fire position: I'm not very knowledgeable about magical correspondences, so I had to look this one up. According to buildingbeautifulsouls.com, "When the Element of Fire appears in the Tarot it usually represents alchemical transformation... which can take a situation and make it wholly unrecognizable after the change occurs." Now it seems to be really adding up! The mob that invaded the capitol betrayed our trust in Democratic Process, they used a strategy of deception to plan and storm inside, and even though they didn't succeed in stopping the count, they basically "got away with it"! And at the end of it, we are a transformed nation still reeling and confronting unintended consequences for months to come.
  • The 10 Swords in the Water position is almost self explanatory, being that water is emotional. We are definitely seeing the emotional upheaval that is accompanying the end of this administration. It's more like the end of an entire Era. Interpersonal relationships are suffering or falling apart across the country, people are still suffering from all facets of the pandemic and afraid for what all these changes mean for their life going forward.
  • And then here's me, Ace of Cups, in the middle of it all, trying to stay spiritually centered, build relationships, and be creative.

Card of the Day: Six of Pentacles

Giving, receiving, sharing. I couldn't really relate to this card as I'm not typically the philanthropic type, and I'm also not on the other end of the balance needing charity. Looking at the Biddy Tarot definition, the author pulls out an application for relationships that is a perfect fit: "...If you are in a relationship, the Six of Pentacles can suggest that one partner is dependent on the other to provide most of the money, love or energy for the relationship to keep going... The relationship is, therefore, unequal; however, both partners have mutually agreed to this arrangement to ensure stability." My husband was already laid off for a couple weeks when the COVID-19 pandemic began. There were no jobs all winter or spring, but he had unemployment, and the CARES Act provided enough supplemental income to keep going as normal as possible. I pulled this card the the last week of hubbin's unemployment benefits, and as of yet, we don't know if he is eligi...

Death of a Friend

A boyfriend from high school died a couple years ago and I only just found out. For the last several years he would post on FB for his sobriety anniversary and I hadn’t seen anything so I went to his profile and saw… “heavenly birthday” greetings from last year?!?!  No announcement on his profile, no obit, not even an open post on his wife’s, kids’, mom’s, or brother’s pages. I did some internet sleuthing and all I found was a rejected bankruptcy filing from 2 years ago for $3000 of debt. His last profile pic he looked sick so he could have had liver issues, cancer, anything.  I was deeply infatuated with this dude and am feeling really gutted. I decided to pull a mini-cross spread to get some intuitive insight but it’s really not comforting 😢 6 card mini cross Mystic Cats Tarot  1: subject/person King of Cups Rv Prone to moodiness or depression but emotionally self-aware.  Yep.  2: obstacle/challenge Judgement  Higher calling, life purpose, letting ...

Not Immediately Clear Does Not Mean Wrong Part I

I have pulled two readings for myself in the last month that just don't make sense, and I could not figure out what the lesson, or how to apply it to my life.  The first was this one from Dec 3: First of all, I don't even remember the question, but I think actually that will help me get clarity. I will often pull a spread that has nothing to do with what I'm after, but still makes sense in some other aspect of my life that actually has higher priority.  9 Pentacles Rev: Self-worth, over-investment in work, hustling 7 Pentacles: Long-term view, sustainable results, perseverance, investment 8 Cups: Disappointment, abandonment, withdrawal, escapism At first I could see how being obsessed with work and material gain can lead to disappointment and giving up, but I was not sure how it fit with me right now. In the two jobs previous to this I definitely hustled my ass off and was  not  rewarded fairly. I got major burnout. Yes I was disappointed and I quit both jobs....
